Rouxville to Aliwal North

Had to walk the whole 35km to Aliwal as I took a rest day in Rouxville. Thinking of doing it more now as it is so freaking cold. Scared to camp and freeze to death although must say the thermal wear sponsored by Meadows is absolutely great. Ja out of Free State now and in the Eastern Cape. Also on Ascension day saw the most beautiful statue of a angel 15km before Aliwal. So fitting.

Had a nice walk and arrived in Aliwal North just before 4. Thanks to Lizanne’s dad Hannes Barnard, who contacted a friend in Aliwal – Tienie Kluyts. He organised with the right people to help me with my bed and also got the new wheels sponsored.

So at 4 when I arrived we went to the cycle shop with the bed to show the guys what wheels and goodies is needed.

Staying at Spanish Haven. Thanks Wanita. Was on my own so great time there.

The next day had 2 schools to visit, then lunch at the old age home. The afternoon had to go to tea with Johnsons parents. He is a little boy that lost his eye because of cancer.

My first visit was at the convent school, Holy Cross primary. Thank you Sr Bridget for giving me the time to speak to the kids.  So great to visit schools where there is still discipline and respect. After Holy Cross went to visit Laerskool ALiwal Noord. What a great Headmaster. The kids are fortunate to have him as their headmaster. Thanks for the fundraising held for Ten million steps by the classes and given to me during my talk there.
