Didi Coertze (18) was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive bone cancer and had to have her foot amputated. The cancer has spread to her lungs, but hasn’t broken her spirit. It is with sadness that I have to say Didi didnt make it on the 14th of April 2012 she took her last breath. She was a inspiration to all on how to celebrate life and will be greatly missed.

In 2004 I felt this bump on my lower back, wasnt sore but very itchy. A the days passed the bump grew. We went from doctor to doctor, I got all sorts of meds, physio etc. Finally one of the doctors decided to do a sonar of my back and found a mass. He reffered me to Dr Piet Botha, a orthopedic surgeon, who requested a MRI Scan and 3 days after the scan I went in for a op to have the mass removed (Feb 2005) I was diagnosed with Chondrasarchoma bone cancer at the age of 16. After op things went well and I went back to school.
January 2006 went for a MRI again showing the cancer had returned. I had to undergo another operation. March 2006 went back to school to finish Gr12, but alas April 2006 another MRI showed the cancer had returned again. I didnt want another op so went to Proff Ruff and Proff Dundee from the Donald Gordon centre who suggested radiation.
May – June 2006 I had radiation and was clean from cancer for the rest of that year and a few years to follow. December 2010 I felt the bump had returned and was diagnosed yet again. March 2011 I finally went for a operation to get it removed, but havnt gone back for any further treatment. October 2011 I know the cancer is back, but my medical aid is exhausted and I cant afford to go for scans etc until March 2012 when the medical aid will help again.
